Obligatory New Years Post

I've never liked New Years Eve/New Years and all that goes with it. For some reason I've just never understood the hype. I don't like staying up late...I tried to make it this year, I really did. I got to see the ball drop in Times Square but fell asleep around 11:30 our time and woke up briefly again when Doug came to bed at 12:30 so I pretty much missed our turn of the calendar moment. Looking back over the year is kind of a hassle. I really can't remember much of what happened last week, or yesterday for that matter so trying to look back over the entire year...forget about it. Resolutions aren't for me either. I'm not going to keep them and I feel badly enough about my many shortcomings so why add that torture! Just like Fr. J said at the Solemnity of Mary mass Thursday, my God and my faith give me the hope that I need for the upcoming year and all the years to come.

Five years ago yesterday, New Year's Eve changed for me forever. It became much more than just a yearly holiday...I gave birth to my first child! At the time I was really disappointed in having her on that particular day. She wasn't due for another 3 weeks. I had gone to my regular OB check and ended up in the hospital being induced due to some minor complications that led the doctor to feel that Big Bear would get better nutrition on the outside than she was inside! I was upset that she would have a birthday so close to Christmas, one that she would have to share with this other national holiday which happened not to be one of my favorites anyway. I've long since gotten over this. She doesn't care when her birthday is...I've never seen anyone love their birthday SO much!

So now, instead of worrying about New Year's Eve plans or thinking about past years or the coming year, I'm much more focused on Big Bear's birthday celebration. We had a wonderful birthday! We made cupcakes - what a mess! It was all I could do to keep Me Too from eating all of them. She tore into at least two. Both of them ate about half of the icing and sprinkles before they could ever reach a cupcake! For dinner we had Grammy and Grampy and Aunt Emma over for pizza and cupcakes. Campo LOVED the cupcakes by the way. And for the grand finales, we had an impromptu snowball fight with tissue paper (watch the video!).

It was a great birthday for Big Bear and a great diversion from New Year's Eve for me!

I know you have probably heard this before but, Big Bear has the whole world celebrating her B-Day. How cool is that! Happy New Years my Dear Sister!
